Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan once revealed how her mother Menaka Irani forbade her from getting married at a young age. Menaka passed away on July 26 due to prolonged illness.

In an earlier interview with Nova IVF Fertility’s YouTube channel, Farah revealed that though she was always “work-oriented”, she thought she was ready to get married at the age of 22. However, her “weird family” advised her against it.

“Marriage was not on my mind at all. I think at 22 I thought I would get married, but my family is weird. They said if you get married at such a young age, we will throw you out of the house. So, they were the complete opposite of normal parents,” said Farah, known for directing films like Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year.

She further added, “My mother said I will throw you out of the house. You have to do something with your life. You have to be financially independent before getting married.”

Farah Khan married filmmaker Shirish Kunder on 9 December 2004. They became parents to three children through IVF in 2008. On a TV reality show, Farah also said, “I think there is no standard age to get married. You should get married when you find the right person. I wanted to run away “I did that in my first year of marriage, because it’s so hard to adjust to.”

Farah Khan was extremely close to her mother and often said that she got all her ‘enthusiasm’ from her. She also once said that only Maneka Irani could tell her to ‘shut up’.
