WhatsApp will notify users if media upload fails, new feature is in the works
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will tell users if their media upload has failed or stopped. The feature is available to some beta testers.
WhatsApp is not just a messaging app for users around the world but also a popular platform for sharing photos and videos. The phrase “WhatsApp the pictures to me” is something most of us use (or hear) whenever we go out with friends and family. We all also know that at the end of the day, the member with the best phone also gets the job of sharing all the media files with others via WhatsApp. Recently, WhatsApp allowed users to share photos in HD quality, making the experience even better. However, this can be very inconvenient at times as WhatsApp does not notify you in case the media upload fails or stops in between. But here is a good news. WhatsApp is reportedly working on a solution to this problem.
A report by WA Beta Info states that WhatsApp is testing a new notification feature that aims to improve user experience by informing users about the status of their media uploads. Introduced in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.13.10.71, the feature aims to immediately notify users if their media upload is paused or failed, without having to open the app.
The new feature gives real-time updates on the status of media uploads. When an upload is interrupted due to connectivity issues or switching to another app, users will receive a notification stating which image or video has been affected. For example, the report mentions that a notification such as “1 upload paused, open app to resume sending” will alert users about the interruption, allowing them to take immediate action to resume the upload.
Earlier, users often did not realise that their upload had stalled or failed until they opened WhatsApp again, which caused delays in sharing important media. With this new system, users receive instant alerts of any halts or failures in their uploads, ensuring they are always aware and able to resolve such issues without delay.
This feature improves the overall file-sharing experience by constantly notifying users about their media uploads. It also supports background app refresh, which helps load messages faster and ensures smooth media uploads even when the app is not actively open.
This notification feature is currently available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app. It is expected to be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.
