In April this year, it was reported that WhatsApp was working on an in-app dialer that could make it easier to make calls through the platform. People around the world love connecting through WhatsApp, be it via messages or calls. However, until now, when you wanted to call someone whose contact was not saved on your phone, things got a little tricky. But with this upcoming feature, WhatsApp is on its way to solving this problem.

According to a report by WA Beta Info, some users in the WhatsApp beta program are now experiencing a new floating action button within the Calls tab, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.24.13.17 available on the Google Play Store. As part of the update, WhatsApp is rolling out an in-app dialer feature. This feature allows beta testers to quickly make calls using a new floating action button located within the Calls tab. Users will be able to make calls directly without needing to add contacts to their address book or manually open a conversation.

The publication has also shared a screenshot, giving a glimpse of what the new dialer might look like in the app.

The introduction of an in-app dialer can greatly improve the user experience by enabling voice calls directly through WhatsApp using internet data, which is often more economical than traditional cellular network calls, especially for international communications. This can be especially beneficial for users who have access to Wi-Fi or affordable data plans.

The new in-app dialer also simplifies the calling process. Users can directly enter a phone number and choose to save it as a new contact or add it to an existing contact card. Additionally, a messaging shortcut within the dialer screen allows users to send messages to phone numbers they initially wanted to dial but chose to send a message instead. Furthermore, the feature also informs users if the phone number entered is registered on WhatsApp or not, letting them immediately know if they can use WhatsApp with that contact or not.

The new in-app dialer feature is available to some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. It is expected to be rolled out to more users in the coming days, expanding the testing base and collecting feedback.
