WhatsApp is allegedly testing a new feature for Android users that will allow them to use their Facebook or Instagram profile photos on the messaging app without manually uploading them. The feature is currently being tested in a beta version and is expected to simplify the process of installing a display picture for WhatsApp by connecting the app with other meta platforms.

According to the details shared by WhatsApp feature tracker webtanfo, the company is testing the facility in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.21.23. With this version, users can allegedly see new options in the profile settings section of the app. Along with general options such as camera, gallery, avatar, and meta AI, two new sources – Facebook and Instagram – are being added to profile photos.

Till now, if someone wanted to use the photo as his WhatsApp DP from Facebook or Instagram, they had to first download the image from that platform and then upload it through the phone’s gallery. This new feature can eliminate the additional step and make things faster for users that maintain the same identity in all meta-owned platforms.

This feature is accessible from the profile section in the settings menu. Users will be able to tap on existing profile photos and can choose Facebook or Instagram to import a new new. However, to use this functionality, WhatsApp users will have to connect their account with the meta accounts centers. This is a system meta that has been introduced for people to manage its appearance in Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Integration with the Meta Accounts Center is not new. It already supports facilities such as cross-posting stories or uses single login in several apps. Now, with the ability to import profile images, the WhatsApp is moving another step forward to offer a more connected experience within the ecosystem of the meta.

However, it is important to note that this feature will not be automatically turned on. According to WABETAINFO, users will have the option to add their accounts or keep them separate. The feature will be disabled by default, which means that users can opt only when they want. In addition, despite this cross-platform syncing, WhatsApp will continue to offer equal level secrecy including end-to-end encryption, and this change will not affect in any way.

So far, this option is still in the development phase and is rolled out to select only users who are part of the Google Play Beta program. It is not confirmed when facilities will be available to the general public, but it is likely to join one of the upcoming updates.
