- This feature will be allegedly limited to one-one chat
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that can allow users to convey a message to those who are not using the app. According to WABETAINFO, this new feature is called guest chat and will be helpful for users who want to communicate with others outside the WhatsApp network. Currently this feature is under development. WhatsApp is expected to release the facility for beta soon, followed by a broad rollout in the future updates.
According to a screenshot shared by Wabetainfo, how this feature will work, for this, the idea behind guest chat seems quite simple. WhatsApp users will be able to invite someone who does not have an app to join a conversation by sending a unique link. The invited person will not need to install the app or create an account. All they have to do is to open the link in their browser and start chatting.
This setup will reportly work through a web-based interface similar to the WhatsApp web, making the process quick and easy.
Although this feature will open more ways to communicate through WhatsApp, reports report that there will be some limitations. Guests will not support chat media sharing – so no photos, videos, GIFs or voice notes. Voice and video calls are also likely to get away from the table, and the chat will only do one by one; Group chat will not be allowed in this mode. However, these restrictions can help keep things simple and light for guests that are not using the app.
Meanwhile, despite being accessible to non-users, guest chat is also expected to be preserved by end-to-end encryption. This means that only two people in the chat will be able to read messages, will not reach only in WhatsApp.
For availability, the guest chat feature was recently seen in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.22.13. This feature is currently in development, but there is no release date yet. WhatsApp will probably share more details as the feature becomes close to launch.
In the earlier beta update (Android version 2.24.6.2), WhatsApp allegedly started testing a feature to manage the third-party chat, which gives users the ability to choose which external apps can connect with WhatsApp. These new devices are called part of a comprehensive strategy to follow the rules of the European Union, which aims to make the communication app more open and user friendly.
