After bringing the transcribing voice notes feature, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature to translate messages using different language packs. Through this feature, the messenger app is hoping to expand its audience. This enhancement will allow users to easily communicate in multiple languages without the need for external translation applications. The feature will instantly translate messages during conversations, which will ensure seamless communication flow, making it easier for users to understand and respond in real-time.

Still in the development stage, WhatsApp is focusing on enhancing this feature with new automatic translation options.

WhatsApp chat translation: How will it work?

According to a report WABetaInfoWhatsApp is considering a feature that will allow users to choose whether the app should automatically translate all chat messages, which is to be included in an upcoming app update. This approach still preserves end-to-end encryption as their solution will process messages on the device. Therefore, WhatsApp requires downloading some language packs to translate messages.

For the initial stage, when this feature is launched, only a few languages will be offered for translation. Like voice note transcription, only a few languages will be supported initially, including English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi, with more languages likely to be supported in future updates.

By developing its own in-house solution, WhatsApp can ensure better integration with its app, maintaining a high level of security. This approach allows translations to be processed entirely on-device, eliminating the need to send messages to external servers for translation and keeping user data and privacy secure.

WhatsApp Voice Note Transcribe Feature

WhatsApp has rolled out a feature that will let you convert voice notes to text, allowing you to read them without having to play them out loud. The feature is currently being tested with a small group of beta users in a few countries who have downloaded the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android from the Google Play Store.

According to WABetaInfoUsers will be prompted to download around 150MB of additional app data. The feature will be enabled by default, but in some cases, users may have to enable it. According to the screenshot shared by the publication, upon enabling the transcription feature, users will get a notification asking them to “Read voice messages with transcript”, indicating the availability of transcribed message content.

The feature is currently in the testing phase and is available to a limited number of beta users. However, WhatsApp aims to roll out the feature to more users soon.
