In the new update, WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to create events in group chats. This feature was previously limited to communities only.
Expanding the feature to regular group chats, WhatsApp has rolled out a feature that will allow users to create events. Previously, the feature was limited to communities only, but it appears that WhatsApp is now considering expanding the feature to regular group chats as well to further improve collaboration and coordination. This means that events can now be created without joining any community. With this feature, users can input event details such as name, description, date, alternate location, and specify whether a voice or video call is required. The move reflects the messenger application’s continued struggle to make it better for users.
Create events in a group chat
According to a report WABetaInfoThe new update will bring changes to the paper-clip options. WhatsApp has increased the options to choose from. On clicking the paper-clip option, the app used to pull out options to add images, documents, audio, contacts, location, and polls. After the update, the app will add another option, to create an event.
Once created, group chat members can view and accept event invitations, while the creator has the ability to update event details as needed. It’s important to note that events are always securely end-to-end encrypted. This means that only the participants in the conversation have access to event details and communications, ensuring privacy and confidentiality for all group members. It’s worth noting that, since this is a broad release, people on the stable release can also now experiment with events in their regular group chats.
This update is being rolled out in a phased manner. So, the events feature for group chats is available to some users who install the latest update of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, and it will be available to even more people in the coming days.
WhatsApp will notify users if media upload fails
As WhatsApp is constantly working to improve its product, the messaging app plans to ping users when media sharing fails. The feature, introduced in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS, aims to immediately notify users if their media upload is stuck or failed, without having to open the app.
The new feature gives real-time updates on the status of media uploads. When an upload is interrupted due to connectivity issues or switching to another app, users will receive a notification telling them which image or video has been affected.
This feature improves the overall file-sharing experience by constantly notifying users about their media uploads. It also supports background app refresh, which helps load messages faster and ensures smooth media uploads even when the app is not actively open.
