WhatsApp brings back its OG Status Notes, Instagram-like update to explain what’s going on
WhatsApp is bringing a major update to the ‘About’ section. The platform is taking a lesson from Instagram’s book, with new About notes disappearing after 24 hours. It appears that WhatsApp is trying to make About as relevant as it was before the introduction of Story-like statuses.

If you used WhatsApp a decade ago, you might remember a time when there were no statuses like Instagram Stories. Rather, users would share their updates via a text status, which later became About. Now, WhatsApp is finally rolling out a much-needed update that will make the feature even more useful.
In a blog post, WhatsApp announced the return of its original About Notes. The update attempts to bring the familiar feature back in a modern form, allowing users to share quick status notes with friends and contacts.
What’s new in WhatsApp?
The About feature lets users convey their current status, availability, or mood through a short phrase or emoji, without having to share an image or video. This can be useful if you want to let your contacts know that you’re not free to chat.
One notable change is the new location of About. It is now pinned to the top of one-on-one chats and clearly displayed on user profiles. Users can respond to someone within the chat by tapping on them. According to WhatsApp. Like Instagram Notes, Notes will expire after about a day. Users can also choose to make it disappear faster or keep it for a longer period of time through settings.
Who can see notes about me?
The visibility controls for the About status have also been updated. Users can decide who sees their About notes, with settings to limit visibility to contacts or expand it to a broader audience. This ensures that notes are only visible to the people you want to share them with, avoiding any awkward incidents.
When will I get WhatsApp About Notes?
WhatsApp is starting the rollout of the new About update. The company says that smartphone users will get this feature from this week. Users can expect this feature to become available gradually, with new options available through the Settings menu.
This reintroduction may be particularly useful for users who are not fans of WhatsApp Status and prefer the app’s previously simple approach.
