Samsung is expected to hold its big Unpacked event in early July, with the new foldable, Galaxy Ring and possibly other new products to be unveiled. The timing of the event is intended to coincide with the Olympics (which begin on July 26) as Samsung is a major sponsor and will want its shiny new gadgets to be front and center.
The next generation of Galaxy foldables has been leaked several times already and we wanted to summarise months of leaks and rumours here, so you know what to expect in July. This post will focus on the Galaxy Z Flip6, the second post will cover the Galaxy Z Fold6.
Cheaper FE model coming
Samsung was at the forefront of the foldable field and the technology has continued to improve with each generation. One thing that has remained relatively constant is the price. It seems like the company has finally reached the point where it is ready to offer a more affordable model alongside the regular flagship-grade flip.
The phone is said to be named Galaxy Z Flip FE, just like the Galaxy S FE series. It will measure 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9mm, which is similar to the Z Flip5, while the Z Flip6 will be slightly thicker (more on that in a bit). This could indicate that it is actually the Galaxy Z Flip5 FE borrowing some or most of the hardware from the 2023 model.
Even bigger cover display
The biggest upgrade on the Galaxy Z Flip5 was the so-called Flex Window – a 3.4″ cover display. Compared to the 1.9″ line display on the previous model, it really changed the way you use your phone. It could display more than simple widgets, in fact it could run full Android apps.

Samsung saw that was good and apparently wants to go even bigger – the Galaxy Z Flip6 is said to have a 3.9-inch cover display. We don’t know if that means an increase in percentage terms as the cover display has a complex shape and flows around the cameras.
Gorilla Glass Armor, which is currently used on the S24 Ultra, may appear. This new type of glass reduces reflectivity substantially, but it may only appear on the cover display.

As for the main display inside, Samsung has trademarked the term “Ironflex.” The durability of that display is the main concern people have when buying their first foldable — other than price, but that’s where the FE comes into play.
We haven’t seen any mention of LTPO, but the S24 trio made the switch and now offers variable refresh rates (up to 120Hz), so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
DIMENSIONS
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is reportedly sized at 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9mm. This is basically the same as the Z Flip 5, which measures 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9mm. The new model will weigh 187 grams.
Here are supposed renders depicting the Z Flip6, which essentially show the same design.

Based on unofficial reports, the Galaxy Z Flip6 will come in the following colors: light blue, light green, silver, and yellow.
Big Battery
As you might have guessed, the thicker design means a bigger battery – the Z Flip6 is said to have a 4,000mAh battery, which is 300mAh more than the Z Flip5. This will be split into two cells – 1,097mAh and 2,790mAh.
This is a total rated capacity of 3,887mAh, the normal capacity should be advertised as the 4,000mAh mentioned above. For comparison, the Z Flip5 battery split is 971mAh + 2,620mAh for a 3,591mAh rated and 3,700mAh normal capacity.

Exynos and/or Snapdragon
In March we saw reports that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 would be equipped with the new Exynos 2400, the same chip that’s inside the global Galaxy S24 variants. In our testing, the Exynos proved plenty fast, but struggled to keep the smaller Galaxy S24 cool. Samsung is reportedly improving cooling on the new Flip, but it’s unclear if that will be enough – the Z Flip 5 was notably worse under sustained load.
Earlier this month we saw a test result in Geekbench for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. We can see another regional split with some Flips getting a Samsung chip and others a Qualcomm chip.

As for the Galaxy Z Flip FE, it will reportedly use the Snapdragon 7S Gen 2. There’s no mention of the Exynos 1480, but the 7S Gen 2 comes from Samsung foundries, so there’s some family connection.
12GB RAM, 8GB for FE
Previous Flips have been capped at 8GB of RAM, but this year the Z Flip6 should get a 24GB RAM option, following in the footsteps of the S12+. However, the Geekbench test result above shows 8GB, so this will remain the base capacity.
The Galaxy Z Flip FE will stay at 8GB – it’s the affordable variant, after all.

In terms of storage, the FE comes with 256GB and 512GB options. These match the options on the Z Flip5 and should be the same options on the Z Flip6 as well (a 1TB version isn’t impossible, just unlikely).
50MP main camera
As you might have noticed, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 will feature a dual camera. Flips have been equipped with 12+12MP dual cameras right from the start and they are not going to get a dedicated tele camera anytime soon.

According to rumors, there will be an upgrade this year, the Z Flip6 will have a 50MP primary camera. It should come with 2x in-sensor zoom. And, hopefully, there will be high-quality day and night shots at 1x as well. The Z Flip5’s camera was already pretty good, but the competition is still not standing still.
The ultra wide camera is expected to remain at 12MP, the selfie camera too will likely not be upgraded and will remain at 10MP.
What else?
It goes without saying that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 will feature the new Galaxy AI. The software support (OS updates and security patches) can be extended up to 24 years like the S7 series.
What about the price? We don’t know yet, but we expect the Galaxy Z Flip 6 to cost around the same as the Z Flip 5, while the Z Flip FE will cost slightly less.
