The art of ‘Kundali Milan’ or Kundali Milan has been practiced in India since Vedic time.
In short
- Astrology is affecting modern Indian dating trends
- Studies show that 51% of the singles believe that zodiacs affect the attraction
- Experts suggest that astrology provides a story to navigate relationships
“About ten days ago, I met someone – the alumni of IIM Ahmedabad of a late 30s – who strongly believed in zodiacal compatibility. He was professional successful, but struggled to find a life partner. He was sure that some sun signs determined personality and compatibility,” Radhika Mohta, coach and relationship coach.
Mohta, who has been a relationship specialist for years, tells India today that they have seen ‘certainly’ people that they make stories about why they are ready for someone. This can be a ‘meat-cute’ in college, an introduction by a mutual friend, and where they explain themselves, “Oh, I’m a Kumbh, and this sign is considered compatible with me, so let’s give it a shot.”
Says Mohta, “Sometimes, we need a story to feel more reliable or possible to a connection, and astrology can fulfill that role.”
If you find yourself thinking in the same way, you are not alone.
It would not be a stretch to say that astrology has always been a part of our culture. In fact, the art of ‘Kundali Milan’ or Kundali Milan has been practiced in India since Vedic times. Of course, it has evolved over the years, and it sounds like astrology – especially the zodiac – is preferred in the dating scene.
A dating app, HappN’s recent in-app survey found that 51 percent of the Indian singles believe that zodiacs play an important role in attraction and compatibility, while 27 percent think they matter but are not a delivery.

Apparently, if you have ever discovered your partner’s signal whether you are compatible, you are not alone. You are also not alone if you are a girl who does not want to date Scorpio men (Umm, Sorry, Scorpio Main). Data shows that “what is your sign?” It’s not a small thing right now – it is becoming a real factor in dating. But let’s be real, while zodiacs consider some Indian singles, they are not a make-or-break deal.
Let’s take a look at what the survey and what tells:
- 27% single always check for a possible crush symbol before deciding to connect
- 51% notice zodiac sign signal but do not trust them completely
- 34% believe that zodiac compatibility matters, but is not the only factor
- 49% singles have used astrology to understand themselves or their partner better
- 51% are open to try astrology for self-awareness
- 48% believe that astrology can highlight issues of potential relationships but prefers communication
- 32% seems that astrology helps decodes the dynamics of the relationship
“Attractions with zodiac cycle signals are more stronger than ever, shaping modern relations in new and exciting ways. As the dating continues to develop, astrology remains a reliable tool, whether for self-chefs, understanding a partner, or breaking the snow on the first date. Therefore, what is your indication? Because in 2025, it can be the key to your next great connection.”
But why growth?
In addition to traditional beliefs, relationship experts like Hapan’s CEO and Chairman, Karima Ben Abdelmelec suggest that this growing interest in zodiac compatibility reflects a change in search of more meaningful connections.
“This trend exposes self-awareness in modern dating and increasing emphasis on personal relationship,” she says.
Mohta says that astrology acts as a connection that makes people feel more reliable or possible, and astrology can fulfill that role.

“Many genes and milleniels tell me that they tell me that they see a unhealthy relationship around themselves – breakup, divorce, unhappy marriage. They want to understand what a relationship works. While astrology is not a guarantee, it provides an indicator, a way to feel a little more secure in their choice,” says attachment.
Finally, people use astrology to create a story that helps them navigate relationships.
Another reason is the rise of astrological materials on social media and astrology apps, which is calming astrology and zodiac signs for the new generation.
Memorization. Dating is scary. People are afraid of rejection, heartbreak and emotional vulnerability. They worry about misusing personal details, their reputation is getting tarnished after a breakup, or simply does not find the right person.
Therefore, when people seek indicators – whether financial stability, success of career, or even zodiac compatibility – it often lies in fear. They want to assure that their choice is “safe”, and a zodiac provides protection.
