For the first time since the pandemic, the largest crowd gathered in the US city of Pasadena, California for the 136th Rose Parade on Wednesday (January 1). From colorful floats to loud marching bands to majestic prancing horses, the parade was a success, albeit not overshadowed by the national tragedy in New Orleans, where a vehicle plowed into a New Year’s Eve crowd. At least 15 people died and 30 were injured. Enjoying the day. The 8.85 kilometer parade attracts spectators from all over the world and the event is also telecast live. Each year, hundreds of volunteers work together to make the event a success. The parade is usually followed by the Rose Bowl game, which is held at the historic Rose Bowl Stadium.
What is the Rose Bowl Parade?
Initially started by the Valley Hunt Club to showcase Southern California’s mild winter climate, the parade has become a cultural phenomenon and New Year’s tradition. It has taken place almost annually in the California city since 1980 and was first broadcast on radio by NBC News in 1927 before moving to television in 1954.
What was the theme of this year’s Rose Bowl Parade?

“The theme of 2025 celebrates the best moments of life – those unexpected times that bring smiles, warm our hearts and fill us with joy. From once-in-a-lifetime experiences to the simplest pleasures, each of our Indelibly imprinted in the memory.” Mr. Morales explained.
Who are the participants?
The Rose Parade has three types of entries: flower-decorated floats sponsored by participating corporations or community organizations, equestrian units, and marching bands. The only cars visible in the Rose Parade are those that may contain the Grand Marshal, the Mayor of Pasadena, Rose Bowl Game Hall of Fame inductees, and the President of the Tournament of Roses.
Morgan Anderson, Bill Brzeski and Drew Rios were appointed as this year’s judges to award float awards based on several criteria including float design, floral presentation and entertainment value.

Who attended this year’s event?
Singers Kizza and Aloe Blacc opened this year’s event with a synchronized light show, pyrotechnics and dancers on top of Honda’s float. Canadian-born dancer Kiesza, best known for her song “Hideaway” in 2014, performed some of her popular songs before a flyover of a B-2 stealth bomber.
Tennis legend Billie Jean King was the parade’s grand marshal and could be seen wearing a red blazer, waving to the crowd from her Rolls-Royce Phantom III.
