The Mission: Impossible movie series has been making waves on the big screen for nearly 30 years. The recent film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, which was released in 2023, had an estimated budget of $291 million, making it one of the most expensive films ever made.
Simon Pegg, who made his debut in the series with Mission: Impossible 3 (2006), took to Instagram to share the progress of Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 2. In a now-defunct Instagram story, the actor spoke highly of his time on the set of Mission: Impossible 8.
“I just finished my last day on Mission: Impossible and said goodbye to everybody. And we started shooting the first part of this story in September 2020, and now we’re in July 2024. What a ride it’s been. And I’m so excited to see how incredible this next movie is going to be. But until then, Benji Dunn says goodbye.”
Simon Pegg plays Benji Dunn in the series. Every dream team needs a person who knows a lot about technology and is well versed with computers, and Benji is the right person for you. Throughout the series, we can see Benji helping Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. From defusing bombs to infiltrating vaults, he can do it all, or rather, he has done it all.
Mission: Impossible 8 – Dead Reckoning Part 2
Despite grossing approximately US$567.5 million, the film underperformed at the box office compared to some of his previous releases. Furthermore, the fact that Oppenheimer and Barbie were released at the same time did not help the film’s performance.
Although Dead Reckoning Part One ended on a big cliffhanger, it may lead to better box office numbers. Mission: Impossible 8 – Dead Reckoning Part Two may be the final farewell to Ethan Hunt’s adventures.
The 8th film, which marks nearly 3 decades of Tom Cruise playing Ethan Hunt, is being directed by Christopher McQuarrie. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 23, 2025, by Paramount Pictures.
