former one direction singer Liam Payne, 31, found dead After falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday.

Police said Payne fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel in the capital’s popular neighborhood of Palermo.

Physicians confirmed that Payne died instantly from his injuries.

According to a police statement, the hotel manager called 911 moments before the collapse and expressed growing concern over Payne’s erratic behavior. In the recording, the manager, who seemed more concerned, said, noting the presence of a balcony in the room, “We are afraid he will do something.”

The communications director of the Buenos Aires Security Ministry told The Associated Press that Payne “jumped from the balcony” after reports of “an aggressive individual who may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol”. Police arrived shortly after 5 pm local time but found Payne already dead.

Outside the hotel, fans gathered to mourn the former boy band member, lighting candles and singing his songs in tribute.

Payne was part of One Direction, a British boy band that achieved global fame and earned a large number of fans around the world.
