Welcome Back, Lee Min-ho: The Return of South Korea’s Favorite Actor
Lee Min-ho makes his highly anticipated comeback to K-drama with When the Stars Gossip, which premieres tomorrow. In this K-Fix, we’ll take a look at why this guy became a household name not only in South Korea, but around the world.

The king of K-drama – Lee Min-ho – is finally making his grand comeback, and fans couldn’t be more excited! After a five-year break from leading roles in K-dramas, he is back with When the Stars Gossip, a brand new series that premieres tomorrow. With a great cast, interesting story, and Min-ho in the lead, this is shaping up to be a must-watch film for K-drama lovers everywhere.
I know I know. Some of you may jump in and say, “But Lee Min-ho was into pachinko!” Yes, he absolutely was, and we were all thrilled to see him on our screens again. But let’s be honest – his role as Han-su in Pachinko, while important, wasn’t the full-on, crush-worthy lead role we’ve come to expect from our beloved Hallyu star.
In fact, it was more like a supporting character that played an important role in the puzzle of Sun-ja’s story. Great performance, no doubt, but not exactly the Lee Min-ho we were looking for.
For those keeping track (and we know you are), his last proper major role was in 2020’s The King: Eternal Monarch. Remember how we were swept into that fantasy world, complete with parallel universes, a dashing king (Min-ho, of course), and undeniable chemistry with Kim Go-eun? Add in Woo Do-hwan’s unforgettable dual roles, and this was a perfect K-drama escape. But that was five years ago! Since then, it’s been a bit of a dry spell for us Min-ho fans.
But now, the wait is finally over. Min-ho is making his highly anticipated comeback with a brand new K-drama, and excitement is at a fever pitch! Starting tomorrow, January 4, we’ll finally see him in When the Stars Gossip, a unique sci-fi romance that pairs him with the incredibly talented Gong Hyo-jin.

Base? Oh, this is very interesting. The official synopsis tells us that the story revolves around a fatal encounter on a space station between a space tourist Gong Ryong (played by Lee Min-ho) and an astronaut Eve Kim (played by Gong Hyo-jin). Yes, you read that right – a space station! A K-drama based on space isn’t something we get every day, and the promise of Min-ho wearing a space suit has already sent fans into a frenzy.
What’s even more exciting is how different this role seems from his previous roles. We’re used to seeing him as the brooding chaebol heir, the great warrior, or the charismatic king, but a space tourist who’s also a gynecologist and obstetrician? It’s a whole new galaxy of possibilities (pun intended). Add in Gong Hyo-jin’s talent for delivering a layered, heartfelt performance, and we’re in for a treat.
There’s also the question of how this new role will further Min-ho as an actor. Over the years, he has proven his ability to bring depth and charm to his characters, and this sci-fi setting could be the perfect opportunity to show us a new side of him.

If we take a stroll down memory lane, it’s easy to see why Lee Min-ho became a household name. His breakout role as Goo Joon-pyo in Boys Over Flowers (2009) brought him instant fame. The show became a cultural phenomenon, and Min-ho’s portrayal of an arrogant but vulnerable chaebol heir won hearts around the world.
He followed this with City Hunter (2011), where he demonstrated his versatility by playing the role of a vigilante. Both dramas not only cemented his status as a global star, but also highlighted his ability to blend charisma with emotional depth.

Over the years, Min-ho has grown rapidly as an actor. With each project, he took on more complex roles, which allowed him to explore new facets of his talent. In The Legend of the Blue Sea (2016), she seamlessly blended comedy and romance with Jun Ji-hyun, proving her impeccable timing and charm.
Then came The King: Eternal Monarch, where he gave a nuanced performance as a king struggling with love, loss, and duty. His ability to balance grandeur with vulnerability has made him one of the most beloved and relatable stars in Korean entertainment.
So, whether you’re a longtime fan of Min-ho or just looking for your next K-drama obsession, When the Stars Gossip is shaping up to be unforgettable. Mark your calendars, stock up on snacks and get ready to fall in love with Lee Min-ho all over again.
Welcome back, Min-ho. we missed you!
