Weekly Survey: What do you think about Oppo Reno13 and Reno13 Pro?
SHARE

Like clockwork, Oppo unveiled the second Reno generation for 2024. The Reno13 series arrives half a year after the 12-series and a year after the 11-series (almost exactly on the same date). These are models for China, considering the Reno11 timeline, the global Reno13 series should arrive in January.

So what’s new? This time both models are powered by the same chipset – a Dimensity 8350 which is basically the same as the 8300. This is a downgrade to the Pro as the flagship Dimensity 9200+ was used in the 12-series models. Also, the vanilla model doesn’t have a telephoto camera (the tele module was cut from the global Reno12 anyway).

Starting with the Oppo Reno13 Pro, it’s bigger than before with a 6.83” display (up from 6.7”) and it has a suitably larger battery, 5,800mAh. This is an increase of 800mAh compared to the 12 Pro and now 80W wired charging is joined by 50W wireless. Some things remain the same, for example the fingerprint reader is still an optical unit. But there are definite upgrades, for example the telephoto module has a longer 85mm lens in front of the 50MP sensor (47mm 50MP tele on the 12 Pro).

The Oppo Reno13, on the other hand, goes smaller with a 6.59” display (down from the Reno12’s 6.7”), but is still able to pack a larger battery – 5,600mAh (up from 5,000mAh). Charging is the same at just 80W wired. As we said, there is no tele module. However, both the Reno13 and Reno13 Pro are rated IP69, compared to the somewhat basic IP65 of the Reno12 duo.

Here are the prices in comparison to the Reno12 series – they cost basically the same as before, with the big change this generation being the introduction of a 1TB storage tier.

16GB/1TB , CNY 3,800 , CNY 4,500

Presumably, this means that the price of the global Reno13 series will also not change, but we will have to wait for official confirmation on the same.

The Reno13 duo is facing tough competition. Also new this week are the Redmi K80 and K80 Pro – they may go global under the Poco brand. The price of the vanilla K80 starts at CNY 2,500, but it is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and not the mid-range Dimensional. The Redmi K80 Pro is priced starting at CNY 3,700 for the 12/256GB unit and brings the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Both have a QHD+ 6.67” display, which is sharper than the Oppo display. And they have bigger batteries, 6,550mAh on the vanilla and 6,000mAh on the Pro.

The Realme GT 7 Pro is priced at CNY 3,600 for the base 12/256GB model in China and it recently went global with an MSRP of €1,000 (reduced to €805 for Black Friday). The global variant has a smaller battery than the Chinese one (5,800mAh vs 6,500mAh), but both variants are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite and feature 6.78” LTPO OLED displays.

Is the Oppo Reno13 duo defeated? The Oppo Reno13 Pro definitely has a lot to prove against the competition and even the Reno12 Pro. What do you think, if/when you get the Reno13 Pro, will you buy it?

What about the vanilla Oppo Reno13? It’s cheaper and has the same chipset as the Pro – but is that enough?
