Although Pugh’s commitment to the look ultimately became unnecessary when the WGA strike caused Marvel’s Thunderbolts to halt its production in June 2023, Crowley expressed gratitude that Pugh prioritized his smaller projects, such as Gerard Butler’s One Supported indie film. Coincidentally, the delay to Thunderbolts had created an opportunity for Pugh to focus on We Live in Time first.
Crowley praised Pugh’s “fearlessness” and his dislike of using a bald wig, which he believed would not look right. “The smaller, more independent film was the one where the actor was saying, ‘This is what I’m going to bet on and not compromise creatively,'” Crowley commented, praising his dedication to authenticity.
