These leaf plates have been used for many years as they are considered more disposable and sterile than wooden utensils. Moreover, eating hot food on banana leaves increases the nutritional value of the food. But do you know how banana leaf plates are made? Recently, a video showcasing the manufacturing process of these plates went viral on Instagram. The clip has attracted viewers from all over.
The video begins with a man placing a circular steel plate on a banana leaf and cutting the leaf into the shape of a round plate using a sharp object. For square-shaped plates, the stem and edges are cut off. The plates are then tied to a long strip of banana stem and wrapped in newspaper before making a bundle.
