We agree that summer and mango are intertwined. But it is not the only fruit of this season. In fact, it brings a variety of options, adding colour and goodness to our fruit basket this time of the year. Here, we will talk about one such delicious seasonal fruit – the black plum, popularly known as jamun (or jam) in India. It is a bite-sized, purple-coloured round fruit, and its sweet-sour taste adds to its uniqueness. But what makes jamun even more special is the childhood memories. We are sure, most of you would remember eating this sour fruit with a mix of black salt, sugar, and chillies. Just thinking about this combination is enough to make us want to taste it, isn’t it? So, we thought of taking the versatility of this fruit a step further by combining it with alcohol to prepare a refreshing, summer-specific cocktail. This jamun cocktail recipe has been shared by content creator Nitin Tiwari, who goes by the name Mr Bartender on Instagram.

What makes the jamun cocktail a perfect drink for summer?
1. Availability of fresh fruits:
Unfortunately, you will only get fresh berries for a very short period of time – sometimes between mid-summer and the onset of monsoon. So, whenever you get this fruit easily, it is always better to make the most of it.
2. Taste Profile:
Jamun tastes best with salt and sugar. The perfect balance of salt, sweetness and tartness makes this fruit even more refreshing and full of electrolytes. So, you’ve got a drink that tastes exactly like your childhood, with a light kick of your favorite spirit.
3. Smooth Texture:
Summers demand cocktails that are smooth, light-tasting and refreshing in nature. According to Nitin Tiwari, this drink satisfies all the requirements as it is carefully combined with seasonal fruits, fresh mint, lemon, salt, sugar and a light white spirit of your choice.
