Vrishabha, starring Mohanlal in the lead, was released in theaters on December 25, 2025, coinciding with Christmas. Directed by Nand Kishore, the film is a fantasy epic action drama that explores the themes of karma and reincarnation.
If you are planning to watch the movie in theatres, here is the Pinkvilla review for you.
plot
Vrishabha Adi is the story of a rich businessman named Dev Varma, who lives with his son. However, when his son visits Aadhi’s ancestral village, the businessman begins to experience mysterious visions of his past life, where he was the king of a king named Vijayendra Vrishabha.
Confused by these visions, Aadi has no idea what is happening in his life, which begins to affect his psyche. In his vision, the businessman also realizes that his arch rival from the past has been reborn as his son in the present day.
The rest of the film tells how Aadhi deals with this emotional turmoil and his relationship with his son. Additionally, the film explores the themes of the karmic cycle and reincarnation, highlighting events that occurred in his past life.
Good
Taurus benefits in a major way from Mohanlal leading the cast in the lead role. The film attempts to be purely entertaining, focusing more on the superstars and catering to their fans, as the “God of Acting” title card suggests.
The film highlights the subtle nuances and skills of the actor, making him an apt choice to balance the dual roles of a businessman and a king. His restrained expressions and sophisticated performance shine through in every scene, making the film truly his own.
While the story, screenplay and direction falter, the film has an impressive soundtrack composed by Sam CS. Kathy the composer handles the emotional core of the film effectively while also enhancing the action moments with ease.
bad
Taurus is ambitious in its initial world-building, but the film ultimately fails to live up to its setup. The introduction does a good job of grabbing the audience’s attention, but the lack of narrative momentum prevents it from being an engaging watch.
The lack of conviction from a storytelling perspective makes the film feel like a lazy enterprise with very little effort made to make it memorable. The themes of father-son bonding and rebirth seem repetitive and lack the emotional depth required to leave an impact.
As the writing impresses, Taurus also fails to impress in terms of production value. The action sequences appear cartoonish due to poor set design and ineffective costume choices. Furthermore, the visuals and editing are not as desired, making the film seem stale and boring.
Display
Mohanlal, as always, does his best with the material given. The actor fully embraces his character, reinforcing why he is often considered a director’s actor. The superstar possesses a calm poise and subtlety that very few possess.
Samarjit Lankesh, who plays Lalettan’s son in the film, also gives a commendable performance, especially during the emotional moments. Additionally, Nayan Sarika and Ragini Dwivedi give their best performances in their supporting roles.

Decision
Vrishabha is an ambitious attempt to make a film that explores the themes of reincarnation and the depth of family relationships. However, its weak execution makes it a tiring watch.
If you want to see Mohanlal’s impressive performance, you can consider watching it in theatres. Otherwise, it might be better to wait for its OTT release.
