Vivek Agnihotri cries dictatorship because Kolkata Bengal blocks the trailer launch of files
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri faced significant obstacles during the trailer launch of his film ‘The Bengal Files’ in Kolkata. Despite the challenges and cancellations, the trailer was eventually unveiled, which highlighted the discovery of West Bengal’s disturbed political history and the film of communal violence.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has rapidly criticized West Bengal officials after facing a big hurdles in Kolkata on 16 August after the trailer launch of his upcoming film The Bengal files.
Originally planned in a major cinema hall was suddenly canceled by a major theater series, allegedly under “political pressure”. It was later transferred to a hotel and finally unveiled at 1 pm on Saturday.
In a video statement, Agnihotri said, “They are obstructing the screening, and I don’t know that there is no reason for this. First, he canceled the program in the theater, and now they are not allowing it here. The hotel officials told me not to host the launch.”
He said, “I have just been informed that all the wires have been cut. Who is giving these instructions, and why, I do not know. Many FIRs have already been filed against us. It is a private hotel. How can they stop us when we have the necessary permission? If we do not have dictatorship, what is it? If it is not fascism?

Meanwhile, a senior Kolkata Police Police official told India today, “It is mandatory to obtain an entertainment license to host such a screening event. However, the organizers did not get the necessary license from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, nor did they inform the local police in advance. We learned about the incident through other sources. Despite the disintegration, the trailer was eventually launched at the hotel. This is not the first time Agnihotri has faced obstacles for the film. On Independence Day, he came to know that the trailer launch was canceled by the theater series. Expressing disappointment in another video, he commented, “We had all the permissions in written form. Our entire team came to Kolkata, but now we learn that the event has been canceled. It is very sad. Is it a constitution for India and another for West Bengal?”
He further accused his attempts to “suppress” his voice, but vowed not to be silent. “Who wants to suppress our voice? And why? But I cannot be silenced. Because the truth cannot be silenced. The trailer will be launched in Kolkata,” he wrote.

Next to the launch, Agnihotri visited the Kalighat temple to seek blessings for the project. “With Ma’s blessings, no one can stop this film,” he said. The film stars National Award winners Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher and Darshan Kumar in the lead roles.
Directed by Agnihotri and built by Abhishek Aggarwal and Pallavi Joshi, ‘The Bengal Files’ has been slated for release on 5 September 2025.
