An X user has posted a picture of what he claims is a three-month-old RO filter used in Noida. The item, which appears to be from a domestic water purifier, has a brownish exterior. This shows that a lot of sediment has accumulated in this filter over time. Near the edges, the colour gets darker and spots of dirt particles can be seen. Take a look below:

The post has been viewed over 259K times so far. It has received a lot of reactions online. Many people felt that the condition of the filter is an indication of the high water pollution in the area. Some people pointed out that the object in the picture is not an RO filter but a different kind of filter.

One x user wrote, “This is a pre-sediment filter, not a RO filter. Your water filter is an RO system, which typically has 6-7 layers of filtration (reverse osmosis is one of them), plus an external pre-sedimentation filter which catches the largest particles (mud/iron).” Another clarified, “Maybe he doesn’t know but this isn’t a pre-RO filter, it’s a second stage and shouldn’t be this clogged in 3 months.”
