Food safety and hygiene are of significant concern whether you are eating homemade food, going to a restaurant or buying packaged food products. A viral video is going viral on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in which a woman named Deepa Devi from Noida shows that she found a frozen centipede in a tub of Amul ice cream ordered through Blinkit. Sharing a picture of the same on her X handle on June 15, 2024, she wrote, “It was really worrying to find a worm inside my @Amul India ice cream. Quality control and food safety should never be compromised. @FSSAI publication must take some legal action on such incidents as the number of these is increasing day by day.”

Elaborating on the incident, Deepa Devi told IANS, “This morning my kids wanted to drink mango shake, so I ordered vanilla ice cream through the Blinkit app. When I opened it, I saw a black centipede on the lid. I informed Blinkit about it. They returned my money (₹195) and assured me that they have informed Amul and I will get a call or message from Amul.” She further added, “No matter how big a brand is, such negligence cannot be ignored.”

People are concerned after seeing the photos and videos of the reported food safety violation, reacting and re-sharing it on social media. “Companies only focus on sales numbers, they forget the quality and its ill effects on consumer health. The company should be fined heavily so that they never repeat such irresponsible acts again,” wrote an ex-user. Another added, “Please take note of this so that such a mistake is not repeated in the future.”
