A video has recently gone viral in which a former bartender performs an elaborate drink ‘trick’ in front of her kids. In the reel, Kim Gamez explains in detail why she took on this challenge and how she managed to pull it off. Kim explains that she found an old newspaper article from 2004 in a filing cabinet. On the front page is a large photo of her performing her signature “pyramid bar trick.” She explains that the photo was taken when she and her husband opened their first restaurant and bar. She then says, “I wonder if Kimmie G still has it.” She decides to try and find out.

She explains each step of her attempt to perform the pyramid trick. First, an odd number of glasses and an even number of shakers have to be prepared. However, instead of the latter, she is using plastic cups this time. Next, all the ingredients for the drink have to be kept ready. She uses flavoured water in the video as she is showing this trick to her kids. But she explains that 20 years ago it used to be liquor shots in bars.
The next step is to put enough ice at the bottom of one cup (or shaker) and place the other cup on top to create a balanced distance between the two. She removes some of the initial ice to better center the cup. Similarly, one has to measure the amount of ice and repeat the step until all the cups are filled and placed together. She is doing this trick with only 5 cups in the video, but she says she remembers doing it with 20 shakers at a time in the old days. She also explains that she always used to sing “The Rainbow Song” while doing this.

After filling the cups with ice and checking their balance as they stack, she separates them again and pours a small amount of the flavored water into each one. She stacks them again and places a glass on top of the last cup. She assembles the empty glasses in the shape of a pyramid on the counter. She then takes the stack of filled cups and “pinches” it tightly from one side so that everything stays in place. She then slowly lowers it onto the ‘pyramid’ and carefully pours the drink into each glass. She succeeds in doing this trick and her kids, who have been watching her every move in amazement, are stunned. One of them says, “Good job mom”. Watch the full video here:
