Bandana Girl took to social media platform On November 2, she shared a short clip on her account, captioned, “Ate makeup today.” She was traveling in an auto and was wearing a bandana well.

Suddenly his clip went viral. Almost every user on X saw his posts, sometimes multiple times a day. At first it seemed that no damage had been done. It appeared that users were quoting her clips to gain more reach on the platform. In return, his video received over 100 million views. People even started speculating that his payment from X would be in lakhs of rupees for this post alone.

Unfortunately, that’s where the good part ends.

Perhaps reaching the pinnacle of fame on social media, on November 22, Priyanga shared her graduation ceremony on Instagram. This degree was in the field of design from a reputed institute. Unfortunately, this turned out to be his biggest mistake. Users, now armed with knowledge about her education and her first name, obtained her personal information from websites like LinkedIn, and then things soon went awry.

The internet is not a safe place, especially for women. After Bandana Girl’s private information was exposed, people collected many more photos of her from various websites and started creating non-consensual AI-generated images and videos.

This completely turned the situation upside down – from being a star on social media to facing unwanted harassment, Bandana Girl became a victim through no fault of her own. He probably had no idea that his post could go viral to this extent and perhaps sharing his degree was an immature mistake.

Why did Bandana Girl get her account banned on X?

On X, he shared a post asking people to stop creating their AI content. “This is going to be my last tweet for a while. A lot of AI-generated photos and videos of me are being circulated that I haven’t consented to,” he wrote. Bandana Girl said the entire incident had reached people she knew, and things had affected her “heavily”.

He concluded, “Please stop feeding AI applications of real people into the media. This has real real-life consequences. Please ask for consent before uploading anything to an AI platform.”

Her X profile is no longer public, and only her followers can see her posts. Unfortunately, this phenomenon is not really surprising. The Internet is full of users who can and often do misuse tools to harass others, especially women.
