Dairy products require careful packaging and storage or else there can be a risk of spoilage. On July 17, 2024, an X (formerly Twitter) user expressed his disappointment with an Amul Protein Buttermilk carton ordered from the “Amul website”. As shown in the photos and video posted by X user, Gajendra Yadav (@imYadav31), the packaging was filled with many small white insects. The customer said, “About half of the packets were open/torn and the buttermilk was already rotten. The buttermilk smelled very bad.” The post has gone viral on social media. Amul has responded and apologized for the same.

Filing a complaint, the user wrote, “Stop buying products from @Amul_Coop website. Hey Amul you have sent us worms with your Protein Buttermilk. I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction after finding worms in the buttermilk I recently purchased. This experience was extremely disappointing and has raised serious concerns about the quality and safety of your products,” adding, “I appreciate your immediate attention to this matter to prevent other customers from experiencing this. Please rectify the matter.”

Sharing a screenshot of the email complaint, he wrote, “I have also sent an email attaching all the proofs and asked them to collect them for their trial by today. I don’t want any false allegations from @Amul_Coop later.”

Amul responded to the complaint by issuing a refund and apologising for its mistake. “Someone from Amul Kanpur team called and apologised for this. They are issuing a refund and resending the product. I have refused for a replacement. They have accepted their mistake and asked me to throw these boxes away. According to them, they are putting things on the dispatching team. They said there was a delay in dispatching for (the product) and that is probably why it got affected. For your information the order was delivered in 10 days…..My question is why did they take so much time…..Why did this situation arise…..Who will be responsible if something happens to the customer due to their negligence.”

According to the update shared by the user, the product got infected with bugs due to the delay by Amul’s “logistics team/partner”. “Got a call from Amul Head Office, Gujarat. They are sorry for the incident. They checked the timeline and according to them…..it happened due to the delay by their logistics team/partner. They have assured me that they are taking this incident very seriously,” the customer said in another tweet.
