Vijay’s wife has filed a new petition amid the ongoing discussion about attending the wedding with Trisha.
Thalapathy Vijay’s wife Sangeeta Sornalingam filed a fresh petition in their ongoing divorce case. She is seeking an interim court order on her right to live in the marital home.
Actor Thalapathy Vijay’s 51-year-old wife Sangeeta Sornalingam has filed another petition in the court seeking residential security and financial relief amid the ongoing divorce proceedings. In the latest filing, Sangeeta – a United Kingdom citizen who says she does not have her own residence in India – has sought the right to stay in her matrimonial home or to be provided with alternative accommodation. The petition also demands “payment of fair and reasonable permanent alimony”.

The petition further alleges that the 51-year-old actor had warned her to approach the court. According to the petition, “Vijay made it clear that if he approached the court for legal separation, he would not be allowed to live in the marital home.” Sangeeta has therefore moved the court seeking interim relief to ensure that she is not left without accommodation during the legal proceedings.
This comes after Vijay attended a wedding reception with actor Trisha Krishnan, which was organized for filmmaker Kalpana Suresh and Meenakshi’s son. According to reports, Vijay and Trisha reached the venue together in the same car and were also seen leaving the event together.
What does the new petition ask for?
In the latest application, Sangeeta has requested the court to allow her to stay in the marital home until Vijay “provides alternative accommodation commensurate with her condition”. The petition argues that since he does not currently have any residence of his own in India, the refusal to provide him residence may result in him not being able to find a place to stay during the pendency of the case.
Apart from residential rights, the petition also includes a request for “payment of fair and reasonable permanent alimony” as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
By seeking this order, Sangeeta aims to secure her residential rights while the court continues to hear the divorce case.
Why has Sangeeta filed for divorce?
Earlier, Sangeeta had filed a petition demanding divorce from Vijay after 26 years of marriage. The couple, who married in August 1999, have two children – Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.
His petition alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital affair with a female actor. According to the filing, Sangeeta came to know about the alleged relationship in 2021.
What allegations were mentioned in the petition?
The petition said that this allegedly continued despite Vijay assuring her to end the relationship. It further claimed that the actor started excluding Sangeeta from his social and professional life.
The document also alleged that Vijay traveled abroad and attended public events with the said actor, while photographs of the outings were shared on social media. Sangeeta claimed that she and her children were humiliated by these posts.
What will happen next in the case?
Sangeeta has cited adultery and cruelty as grounds for divorce under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. He has argued that the alleged conduct and resulting controversies caused him severe mental distress.
The case is currently being heard in the District Court, and the outcome of the proceedings has not yet been decided. Sangeetha, daughter of a Tamil industrialist, was once known to be a fan of Vijay before marriage. Their marriage was celebrated as per both Hindu and Christian rituals.
