Actor Vijay Varma, who is enjoying the success of Netflix series IC 814, said he was cast for a role in Anurag Kashyap’s Sacred Games but was dropped from the film. However, he said he has not given up on faith.

Vijay Verma started getting the popularity he deserved after playing the character of Moeen in Zoya Akhtar’s film Gully Boy. From then on, offers started pouring in for him.

Vijay said, “I did not get any offers until after Gully Boy. Casting directors believed in me, but I was not given a chance for a long time.” Indian Express,

“In some auditions, I was on the waitlist, in the top five, in the top two and then I was locked in and then I was fired! I was locked in Sacred Games, I took my costume measurements and then I was fired. Things like that have happened but some part of me keeps the faith and belief. Work started coming in after Gully Boy but I think I was so hungry for work that I took on a lot after the film,” the actor said.

Vijay also spoke about being typecast with negative roles after Darlings. He said, “When Darlings was made, I couldn’t imagine myself in that role and then there were many roles where I was playing extremely devious, tyrannical or conniving men. A part of me wanted to break it but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I got a lot of support from filmmakers who said they had seen me that way and wanted to offer me something new.”

The actor further added, “That’s how Sujoy Ghosh gave me Jaane Jaan where he decided to show me in a new light. Homi Adajania gave me Murder Mubarak, Anubhav Sinha sir gave me IC 814. Anyone who has seen Darlings and Roar will not think that this is our greatest character, and we wanted this boy to play it. The industry works in mysterious ways, when they see potential in you, they also want to give you a chance to tap your other side. I didn’t break any stereotype, because I didn’t create any stereotype. They created it, they broke it.”

Vijay Varma will make his Tamil film debut with the tentative title ‘Suriya 43’.
