Vijay Verma normalised beauty standards by speaking out about the skin condition vitiligo, which he himself suffers from
Celebrities have access to the best glam teams and skincare professionals who help them look their best. Despite all the facilities available, some skin conditions like vitiligo, psoriasis, and alopecia are not curable and are only manageable. Recently, actor Vijay Verma, in a conversation with ETimes, spoke about the condition called vitiligo, which is a type of skin disorder that makes patches of skin lose their colour. For Vijay Verma, vitiligo was just a “cosmetic thing” and hence, he “didn’t want to make a big deal out of it”. “See, I didn’t make a big deal out of it. It’s just a cosmetic thing, and it’s not really something that can change the direction of your life. We make it a big deal because it’s something that’s out there, but I never really made a big deal out of it,” he said in the interview.

Now speaking about it publicly, Vijay Varma admitted that he used to “worry” about the skin condition when he was an “unemployed” actor. “I used to worry about it when I was an unemployed actor. I thought it would become a hindrance for me. But since I have been working and seeing a lot of success, I am no longer worried about it,” he said.
Although Vijay Varma doesn’t “bother” to hide his skin condition in public, he makes sure to hide his skin colour in films. Elaborating on this, he said, “I have hidden it for my films because it only distracts, and I don’t want my audience to see anything other than the scene I am portraying, so that’s why I hide it. But in all my public appearances, all these years, I have never bothered to hide it. People nowadays are very intelligent, and I think today’s generation has an innate sense of responsibility. My skin condition was never spoken about openly. Maybe if it was any other time, it could have possibly become a topic of discussion.”
