At least 28 people were rescued after being trapped for nearly half an hour upside down on a swing at a 100-year-old amusement park in Portland, Oregon, in the United States.

The incident took place on Friday evening, when the park was open for summer vacation.

The boat was later lowered manually with the help of emergency workers, following which all the passengers were evacuated and sent for medical examination.

According to a statement from amusement park officials, emergency crews arrived about 25 minutes after they were called, the Associated Press reports.

There were no reports of anyone being injured in the incident. However, a rider who was already ill was taken to a hospital for further check-up as a precautionary measure.

A video widely shared on social media showed the ride with several riders in the air.

Called Atmosphere, this ride works like a pendulum, with the ability to swing riders completely upside down.

The park’s statement said the ride has been operational since 2021 and has not had any accidents before. It will remain closed until further notice.

Park officials also said they would work with the ride’s manufacturer and state inspectors to determine the cause of the outage, the AP reported.
