A man set himself and his car on fire on Amsterdam’s prestigious Dam Square on Thursday, stating that he suspected that he was a possible attempt to take his life.

Images posted by local media and online show a small red car drawn to the national monument located near the south -east corner of Square.

Shortly after, after a small explosion, the flames came out of the vehicle.

“Camera images suggest that the dam was on fire after a car exploded,” Amsterdam police confirmed on Twitter in the east on X.

Police said, “Many people were close to the vehicle at that time, but as far as we know, no one was wise,” the police said.

Passengers can be seen disintegrating, with many police vehicles quickly burning around the burning car.

The fire is believed to be intentionally started by the car driver “who was injured in the process,” the police said.

The driver stumbled his clothes from the car with fire, quickly extinguished by the police.

The injured person was rushed to the hospital and was under police arrest.

He was later recognized as a 50 -year -old Dutch national in North Netherlands province. However, the police did not release his name.

Police said, “Detectives are keeping all the scenarios open, but they firmly suspect that the man wanted to kill him. He is suspicious of arson.”

An AFP reporter at the scene saw police and explosive officers investigating the burnt vehicle, while the class in the city was largely closed.

A witness told the local AT5 television station that he heard a “small pop, not even a real explosion” and saw people running away.

“Then suddenly there was a loud explosion and there were lots of black smoke.”

“After that I saw the man. Suddenly he was on fire. It was untrue,” he said.

Last week, a Ukrainian man took the latest incident a few days after a random knife was randomly stabbed on the roads around Square, located in the center of the Dutch capital.

Dutch prosecutors said on Tuesday that the man “acted with the terrorist” intentions.
