A mayoral debate in Brazil took a violent turn when a candidate attacked his opponent with a metal chair on live TV. CNNThe incident took place on Sunday, September 15. Mr. DeTena later told TV Cultura that he attacked Mr. Markle because he brought up old sexual assault allegations against Mr. DeTena that had been dismissed several years ago. “He came up with a case that was archived, that the police didn’t even investigate because there was no evidence. Something from 11 years ago that caused a very serious situation in my family,” Mr. DeTena said, according to the outlet.
Mr Datena was kicked out of the debate after the incident. However, on Monday he insisted that even though he had made a mistake, he had no regrets about his actions.

On the other hand, Mr Markle compared the attack to the assassination attempt against former US President Donald Trump in July and the knife attack on former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro during the 2018 election. His team has vowed to take legal action.
Mr Marcel’s team said: “Jose Luiz Datena carried out a cowardly attack on Pablo Marcel and hit him in the ribs with a metal chair.” They said it was unfortunate the debate continued without him.
