Veteran Tamil filmmaker Thakkali Srinivasan passes away at 72 in Bengaluru

Filmmaker and composer Thakkali Srinivasan, known for his contribution to Tamil and Telugu cinema, died in Bengaluru at the age of 72. His funeral took place on 11 March.

Veteran Tamil filmmaker and musician Thakkali Srinivasan died at the age of 72 in Bengaluru on March 10 due to health complications. Known for his career as a producer, director, actor, composer and screenwriter, Sreenivasan was a prominent figure in South cinema. Following his death, tributes poured in from fans and industry colleagues on social media platforms.

Srinivasan’s funeral took place on 11 March in Bengaluru. His publicist announced the news, writing, “It is with great sadness to announce that producer/director/composer Thakkali Sreenivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru. He was a philanthropist who ran an ashram in the later years of his life and was living with his adopted children.”

Throughout his career, Srinivasan produced several notable films. IVarangal Varungala Thungal, Mansukul Mathappu, Nalaya Manithan, Jenma Natchathiram, Athisiya ManithanAnd Witness. He also played the role of a villain in Kamal Haasan’s film Sur Samharam.

Starting his career as a producer, Srinivasan spent money Ivargal Varungala Thungal and later produced the science fiction film Nalaya Manithan In 1989. Due to the success of the film, its sequel was made, Adhisaya ManithanNext year.

By 1991, Sreenivasan expanded into direction with the supernatural horror film Jenma Nachthrum. He continued his work with films like Witnesswhich featured a large cast, and concluded his directorial career with Ashokavanam And Aduthathu in 2011.

Apart from his work as a filmmaker, Sreenivasan also composed music for several films, often collaborating as part of the Premi-Srini duo, which contributed many notable songs to Tamil cinema.

While Srinivasan was particularly recognized in Telugu cinema, his contributions to the Tamil film industry and his humanitarian efforts, including support for ashrams and his life with adopted children, also earned him respect.
