Veteran Marathi actor Vijay Kadam passed away on Saturday morning. He was 68 years old. It is being told that the senior actor was battling cancer for a long time. Kadam’s friend and actor Jaywant Wadkar confirmed his death.

According to ANI, Jaywant said, “He was bravely fighting cancer. Initially, he recovered, but later his health deteriorated.” Kadam’s friend said he suffered an acidity attack around 25 days ago.

Talking about his filmography in Indian cinema, Wadkar said Vijay Kadam was “extremely talented”. He further added that he worked in a variety of projects from Marathi cinema to Hindi films in his decades-long career.

Wadkar, who considered Vijay Kadam as his family, praised the late actor and said, “It is impossible to find an actor like him again.” Mourning the demise of his friend, Wadkar said that his death has left a void in the industry.

According to the agency, Kadam’s funeral took place at the Andheri-Oshiwara crematorium on Saturday afternoon. The late actor is survived by his wife and son.

According to a News18 report, Vijay Kadam began treatment for cancer last year and had to undergo a few surgeries as well as chemotherapy. He is best remembered for his contribution to Marathi cinema and theatre.

His notable works in the Marathi film industry include Irsal Karti, De Danadan, Chashme Bahaddar and many more. He also worked in Marathi films like Police Line, Halad Rusli Kunku Hasala and De Dhadak Bedhadak.

He rose to fame after acting in Purushottam Berde’s Marathi stage play, Tur Tur (1983-84). The play also featured the late actor Laxmikant Berde of Hum Aapke Hain Koun fame. Vijay started his acting career with theatre in the 1980s. Apart from Tur Tur, he also worked in Vichcha Majhi Poori Kara and Pappa Sanga Kunache.

Vijay Kadam was seen in Arshad Warsi’s debut film Tere Mere Sapne. In this, Kadam played the role of a traffic policeman. The 1996 film also featured Chandrachur Singh and Priya Gill. The late actor was last seen in the Marathi TV series ‘Ti Parat Aali’. The show was released in 2021.
