Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal passes away in Mumbai at the age of 98
Kamini Kaushal died at her Mumbai home. His career spanned more than seven decades, with his last on-screen appearance being in 2022’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.

Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal passed away at her Mumbai home at the age of 98. Her career helped shape the early years of Indian cinema and spanned more than seven decades. His death was confirmed to PTI by a close family friend.
Kaushal started her film career in 1946 with the classic ‘Neecha Nagar’, soon becoming one of the early female stars of Hindi cinema. Over the decades, she appeared in several acclaimed films, including ‘Do Bhai’ (1947), ‘Shaheed’ (1948), ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’ (1948), ‘Ziddi’ (1948), and ‘Shabnam’ (1949).
During her peak, Kaushal was considered one of the highest paid female actors of the industry and acted alongside leading men like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor. In the mid-1960s he successfully transitioned from leading roles to character roles.
His performances in films such as ‘Shaheed’ (1965), ‘Do Raaste’ (1969), ‘Anhoni’ (1973), and ‘Prem Nagar’ (1974) were widely appreciated, reflecting his depth and range as an actor.
Even in his later years, Kaushal remained associated with cinematic storytelling. His last on-screen appearance was in the 2022 film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ at the age of 95.
Confirming her death, Sanjay Narayan, a close family friend, told PTI, “She passed away at her Mumbai home late Thursday night. She would have turned 99 in February.”
Throughout his life, Kaushal maintained a private profile, and preferred to stay away from the limelight. A source close to the actor’s family told the news agency, “Kamini Kaushal’s family is very low profile and they need privacy.”
Kamini Kaushal is survived by his three sons Shravan, Vidur and Rahul.
