Vedanta Q1 Update: Alumina production up 36% YoY to 539 kt, mining metal up 2%

Metal major Vedanta reported a 36% year-on-year jump in alumina production at its Lanjigarh refinery on the back of new capacity, the company said in a filing to the exchanges today. In Q1FY24, the company produced 395 kt. It was up 11% on quarter-on-quarter basis against 484 kt in the March quarter.

Cast metal aluminum production at its smelters was reported at 596 kt, up 3% on better operational performance. Metal production was flat on a QoQ basis.

Its mined metal production in the first quarter was 263 kt, up 2% yoy with improved mined metal grades. In line with year-over-year mine preparation activities in the first quarter, it was down 12% QoQ, the company said in a filing.

Refined metal production stood at 262 kt, down 1% YoY and 4% QoQ due to plant availability and pyro operations on lead mode for the latter part of 1QFY25. Refined zinc production was reported at 211 kt, down 1% YoY and 4% QoQ.

Refined lead production was 51 kt in Q1, down 2% YoY and 3% QoQ, while salable silver production was 167 tonnes, down 7% YoY and 12% QoQ.

In zinc’s international business, mining metal production declined by 45% to 38 kt in Q1FY25 to 68 kt in Q1FY24.
