Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ has been facing delays and criticism from Sikh organisations while awaiting CBFC approval. Filmmaker Varun Grover recently supported the film and said that censoring a film is ‘never right’.

Kangana Ranaut’s film “Emergency”, based on the events during the Emergency in India, has received support from filmmaker Varun Grover amid growing criticism and uncertainty over its release.
Expressing his views on X, Grover said that censorship is not healthy in society and it is ironic that there are demands to stop the release of a film based on Emergency.
He wrote, “Censorship is never right – whether of individual expression or of any work of art. It is sad and extremely ironic that a film on the Emergency was stopped by the establishment. Filmmaking is a huge act of faith, almost a self-destruction, and we allow a group of scared people to chop it up haphazardly.”

‘Emergency’ has been postponed from its original release date in September due to criticism from various Sikh organisations and is still awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Kangana Ranaut, who has directed and written the film, will play former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.
The film, originally scheduled to release in 2023, was rescheduled for September 6, 2024, but has been postponed again.
Sources close to Kangana’s team said that the Lok Sabha MP from Mandi hopes that the film will be released within the next 10 days. The new release date is being finalized due to some issues There have been controversies with the censor board and recently, she has been given death threats. According to information shared with India Today, despite these challenges, Kangana wants to see the film release as soon as possible.
