Citadel: Honey Bunny starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu is an upcoming Indian spy action thriller series and a spin-off of the American TV series Citadel directed by Priyanka Chopra. In a new interview, Varun shared some interesting anecdotes from the shoot as the actor revealed that he was banned from other projects while working under the direction of Raj and DK. He also shared his working experience with Samantha and said that her incredible work ethic inspired him.
Today, on August 1, at the teaser release event of Citadel: Honey Bunny, Varun Dhawan revealed that the makers of the series wanted him to stay away from other projects as they did not want his look to be revealed.
Varun revealed that the makers were quite concerned about this and Dhawan was given strict instructions before he started working. Sharing the instructions, he said, “‘If you are doing this, you cannot do any other work or shoot any advertisement during this time. This is your look, you can stay in it only.’ I liked it more because I had to stay in this character for a very long time.”
At the event, Varun also praised his co-star Samantha Ruth Prabhu and revealed how he punched her on the first day of shooting. He recalled how Samantha asked him to hit her. He said, “It is a violent love story.”
Varun Dhawan also spoke about Samantha’s determination and patience as she had to go through a tough time due to her illness during the shoot. The Baby John actor said that his preparation was much easier compared to Samantha’s.
“I used to think my rehearsals were tough, but then I saw their incredible work ethic despite their struggles and that really inspired me. We became partners in making things possible,” Dhawan said.
Praising Samantha’s never-say-die spirit, Varun Dhawan said he has never been on a shoot or creative process before where he has seen a co-actor go through such challenges. “When you see someone struggle with something and still succeed, you learn a lot about human resilience and strength. Samantha has inspired not just me, but Raj, DK, Sita and everyone at Amazon. Her dedication towards this action show is truly inspiring,” Varun said.
Talking about the teaser of the series, it is set to take the audience on a great journey full of thrill, action and heroism with a 90s charm. Samantha Prabhu as Honey and Varun Dhawan as Bunny look fabulous in their spy avatars and talented actors like Kay Kay Menon add to the star cast.
On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra re-shared the post shared by the makers of Citadel: Honey Bunny starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The global icon who also worked in the American version of the series, Citadel, congratulated the series and the cast and made several confrontational emojis. She also tagged the lead stars, directors Raj and DK and the makers of the show.

Citadel: Honey Bunny also stars Kay Kay Menon, Saqib Saleem and Sikander Kher. Citadel: Honey Bunny (Hindi) and Citadel: Diana (Italian) were announced as non-English spin-offs. The Italian spin-off will release on October 10, 2024, followed by the Hindi spin-off on November 7, 2024. Fans are eagerly waiting to see Varun and Samantha in the upcoming thriller series.
