Varun Dhawan is currently preparing for his upcoming, much-awaited, release of Baby John. Anticipation for Kaliese’s directorial debut is sky-high. Meanwhile, there are speculations that the action-entertainer is a remake of Tamil film Theri. Recently, Varun clarified that it was just an ‘adaptation’ and not a ‘book-by-book remake’.
During a recent press event, Varun Dhawan addressed the speculations about his upcoming film Baby John being a remake of the Tamil film Theri. The actor said that one of the reasons was that Atlee came to him with the film and he noticed the changes in the geography of the film. He admitted that Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri has been used as an adaptation and not a proper remake.
“As you see, there are a lot of frames and a lot of different angles to the story. So, if anyone comes in expecting a book-by-book remake, they will be disappointed because the movie is not that. This is an adaptation. We’re not running away from that, but it’s an adaptation,” he said.
Varun further expressed his belief that the film offers a modern perspective on parenting and highlights women’s safety issues in India. He stressed that the film also involves a story – ‘a bigger matter’ which is inspired by real events and his role has been changed from that point of view.
The Thalapathy Vijay-led Tamil film, Theri, was released in 2016 and directed by Atlee Kumar. It also featured Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Amy Jackson and others in important roles.
Talking about Baby John, the long-awaited action-entertainer led by Varun Dhawan also stars Vamika Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav in lead roles. Furthermore, the film also promises special appearances by Salman Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Sanya Malhotra, adding a charm to its euphoric experience.
Apart from the trailer, Baby John’s songs Nain Matakka, Bandobast and Pikli Pom are getting tremendous love from the fans.
Presented by Jio Studios in association with Atlee and Cine1 Studios, Baby John is produced by A for Apple Studios and Cine1 Studios and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2024.
