Varun Dhawan credits uncle Anil Dhawan for his debut: My father never launched me
Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan shared insights about his family’s way of launching newcomers and expressed pride in his niece Anjini Dhawan’s debut film. He also said that his father, director David Dhawan, did not launch her.

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan shed light on his family’s stance on launching new artistes and expressed pride in his niece’s achievements. The ‘Bhediya’ actor attended the trailer launch of his niece Anjini Dhawan’s debut film ‘Binny & Family’.
Dhawan explained, “She is my niece, but I am here like an elder brother. It’s a good film, so I am here. Like my father would never have launched me, because there is no such tradition in my family; he doesn’t believe in it. Whatever she has done, we have no hand in it, and it would be wrong for me to take credit for any of her success.”
The actor expressed his admiration for his niece’s journey, saying, “Really, she has done it all on her own, and I am very proud of her for the journey she has taken.”
Reflecting on his family background, Dhawan highlighted the emotional significance of the day, acknowledging his uncle Anil Dhawan’s influence on his career in the film industry. He said, “It’s an emotional day for me because my uncle Anil Dhawan is a big reason why I am in films. No matter how much I say, he has supported this film. He wasn’t cast because of me or my daddy.”
Dhawan also praised the current generation for their awareness and resilience and said, “People of my niece’s generation are smart and don’t stay in the same box. They know life is tough. When I was growing up, everyone was telling me life ahead won’t be easy, but this generation already knows that and they are ready to work for it. So, I think this generation is teaching us something.”
