Vadh 2 starring Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta in lead roles along with Kumud Mishra, Shilpa Shukla, Amit Kumar and others has registered a huge decline on its first Monday. The film could collect only Rs 10 crore. With earnings of Rs 25 lakh, it recorded a decline of almost 45 percent compared to the opening day.
Although it showed a promising start the momentum could not be capitalized on well. Currently stands at Rs. With earnings of Rs 2.30 crore, Vadh 2 opened its first week with around Rs. Earning Rs 3 crore at the Indian box office. One should note that the film is running in theaters with an active buy-one-get-one offer, which means the actual collections are around half of these figures. The film should have remained stable on its first Monday for better results. So far the trend is normal.
The sequel has performed much better than the original film. For the record, Slaughter had collected Rs. 65 lakh in its full run, while Slaughter is expected to end up around Rs 2. 3.50 crore to Rs. 4 crores, depending on how the film performs after the release of O Romeo. This is a victory of sorts for the film and deserves praise. However, some sections of the business appear unwilling to recognize the value in such results.
One portal even says that “there really shouldn’t be a second part.” A film with no face value is likely to do about ten times more business than its predecessor, even at a lower level of business, which clearly indicates some appreciation. To dismiss its existence outright is short-sighted. Moreover, at a time when the industry suffers from a lack of releases for several weeks a year, it is counterproductive to discourage films that get at least some audience. Beyond the box office math, filmmaking is fundamentally an art, and the idea of suppressing films simply because they don’t attract mass audiences is deeply flawed.
