‘Va Vaathiyar’ starring Karthi and Kriti Shetty in lead roles is finally releasing on the big screen. After much speculation, the film will be released in theaters on December 12, 2025.
Va Vaathiyar Release Date
The official update regarding the release date of the film was confirmed by the makers as they unveiled Va Vaathiyar’s third single, Mudha La Li. Sharing the update, he wrote, “#MuDhaLaLi is here. #VaaVaathiyaar, in theaters on 12th December! See you in theatres.”

The single is composed by Santosh Narayanan, with vocals by Subhlashini. Lyrics of the song are written by Durai.
Va Vaathiyar is the story of a police officer who is brought up by his grandfather, who is a staunch MGR fan. Heavily influenced by his grandfather, Adhikari adopted the style and swag of late MGR, and transformed into a Tamil masala film hero of the 80s-90s in real life.
However, his life takes a new turn when an unexpected conflict takes him down a dangerous path. What happens to him through a humorous narrative is the focus of the story.
Apart from Karthi and Kriti Shetty, the film stars Sathyaraj, Anandraj, Rajkiran, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, GM Sundar, Vadivukkarasi, Madhur Mittal, Nivas Adithan and many others in lead roles.
The film was initially expected to release in theaters on December 5, 2025, but after much speculation, it has now been postponed by a week.
Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film marks the filmmaker’s return to Tamil cinema after five years after last working in the anthology film Kutty Story.
Karthi and Kriti Shetty’s work front
After Va Vaathiyar, Karthi is expected to be seen in the lead role in Sardaar 2. Directed by PS Mithran, the film will serve as the sequel to the 2022 spy action film Sardaar.
Apart from the Miyazhagan actor, the film also stars SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Aashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Babu Antony and many others in lead roles.
Looking ahead, Karthi is currently shooting for the action drama Martial co-starring Kalyani Priyadarshan.
Meanwhile, Kriti Shetty will be back on the big screen this month with her film Love Insurance Company (LIK), releasing on December 18, 2025. Co-starring Pradeep Ranganathan, the sci-fi romantic comedy is directed by Vignesh Shivan.
