A 44-year-old woman in the United States suffered horrific injuries after being attacked by a swarm of highly venomous spiders. New York PostJessica Rogge was cleaning the shed outside her home in Atlanta when she discovered several brown spider webs. Less than 24 hours later, she was rushed to the hospital because her face, arms and throat were swollen and she had a rash all over her body.
Brown recluse spider bites can cause necrotic (rotting) skin lesions and in some cases serious reactions or even death. In Ms. Rogg’s case, brown recluse spiders bit her in multiple places. PostHe suffered terrible injuries, his face was swollen and his skin felt “on fire”.
“I was sweeping there and then I felt something on my face near my eye. I thought I had been bitten,” Ms Rogge said. “There were spiders all over me. There was a lot of nasty web where I was, and I was trying to clean it up,” she added.
According to her GoFundMe page, the 44-year-old also suffered numbness and a lack of mobility in her arms and legs. And she said she’s “really worried” about her eye. “My eye is hurting a lot. I don’t know what’s going to happen to my eye,” she told local news outlets while wearing a bandage over her eyes.

A GoFundMe to help with Ms. Rogge’s medical costs has raised $8,097. “She has numbness and loss of mobility in her arms and legs (still unsure if this is temporary or permanent) and her skin is flaring,” wrote fundraiser organizer Morgan Underwood. “She is unable to work and has three beautiful daughters,” the page read.
In the update, Ms. Underwood said Ms. Rogge is out of the hospital and recovering. “The swelling on her face has gone down significantly,” the page reads, adding that it “is now covered in an itchy, painful rash.” “Her arms, neck and chest are also covered in an itchy, painful rash, and the places where she was bitten have developed blisters, so we are keeping an eye on her,” the update said.
Notably, the brown recluse spider is the most common and widespread of the brown recluse spiders, but it is typically only found in the southern and central United States. It is a small species that can grow up to 0.5 inches long. However, its bite can pack a powerful venomous punch.
