US State Secretary Marco Rubio spoke to Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday about the possibilities for engagement on tariffs, trade relations, immigration and important minerals, the Foreign Department and the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said a different statement.
President Donald Trump said last week that he would implement 10% baseline tariffs on all imports in the US and high duties on dozens of other countries, including Washington’s largest trading partner, global markets stunning and surprising American colleagues. The Trump administration imposed 29% tariff on Pakistan.
The State Department said, “He (Rubio and Dar) discussed American mutual tariffs on Pakistan and progress towards a fair and balanced business relationship,” said the state department.
“The Secretary increased the possibilities for engagement on important minerals and expressed interest in expansion of commercial opportunities for American companies.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry stated that Rubio gained the desire to cooperate with Pakistan in trade and investment in various fields, especially important minerals. “
The Trump administration has also used the possibilities of connection with other countries on important minerals.
For example, it is trying to attack an agreement on important minerals with Ukraine as part of the Russia-Ukraine war-related talks. Washington has also said that it is open to exploring significant mineral participation with the Congo and to help end a struggle in the east of the African country.
In a call with Dar, Rubio emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s cooperation with the US on law enforcement and addressed illegal immigration, said the State Department.
Last month, Pakistan highlighted its cooperation with Washington on combating extremism after the arrest of Mohammad Sharifullah, which blames its soldiers at the US Kabul Airport for the 2021 attack on Kabul Airport, in a military operation with the border with Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Rubio and Dar discussed the situation in Afghanistan.
