‘Uljhan’ box office first day: Janhvi Kapoor’s film earns just Rs 1 crore
‘Uljhan’ has taken the lowest opening for any film starring Janhvi Kapoor in the last two years. The film grossed Rs 1.10 crore on its first day at the box office in India.
Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Uljhan’ earned Rs 1.10 crore in India on Friday. Despite extensive promotions, the thriller could not attract enough audience to the theatres on its first day. The film was facing competition at the box office from ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’, which earned Rs 2 crore on its first day at the box office.
This was the lowest opening for a film starring Janhvi in the lead role in a long time. Her previous film ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi’, also starring Rajkummar Rao, had opened to Rs 6.75 crore despite mixed reviews earlier this year.
‘Uljhan’ was a film of a complex genre and the advance booking did not do much good at the box office. However, the film relied largely on good word-of-mouth. Directed by Sudhanshu Saria, the film has received mixed response from critics and audiences and this has definitely affected its opening. However, given the surge in business on Saturday and Sunday, it will be interesting to see how ‘Uljhan’ maintains its position at the box office.
The film is also facing tough competition from ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, which released in India amid some great reviews and buzz. This is Marvel’s 34th film and is expected to do wonders at the box office in its second weekend as well. Even the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ craze is not completely over yet, which could be another reason for the slow progress of ‘Uljhan’ at the box office.
Meanwhile, Janhvi’s next film ‘Devra: Part 1’ is creating a lot of buzz even before its release. She is paired opposite ‘RRR’ fame Jr NTR in this Telugu film and is expected to rock the box office upon release and become the biggest film of Janhvi’s career so far.
