Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve and starring Sohum Shah, is all set to release in theatres again. When the film released in theatres in 2018, it did not receive a great response as it only grossed a little over Rs 12 crore. Yes, considering that the film managed to reach Rs 12 crore after opening around Rs 50 lakh, it did do well, but it was never going to be enough.
With time, Tumbbad gained a cult status and due to its growing popularity and the fact that nostalgia is kicking in, the makers thought of re-releasing their film and it might turn out to be their best decision ever.
Tumbbad sold 6000 tickets across top national chains on the first day, 2 days before its release
The makers of Tumbbad have pulled out all the stops to re-release their film on September 13 and the results are showing as the film has sold 6000 tickets across top national chains like PVRInox and Cinepolis just 2 days before its release. Out of the 6000 tickets sold across top chains, PVRInox has sold over 4000 tickets and Cinepolis has sold a little less than 2000. While the exact performance of the film is not yet known, it seems like it will secure a good number of screens for itself considering the ticketing pressure that is already being seen.
2 days in advance, it looks like Sohum Shah’s film will easily sell more than 20000 tickets in top chains by the end of its advance. It is set to become the highest collection film on the first day of re-release. This may sound strange but Tumbbad is expected to collect four times more on the first day of re-release than its original opening day.
Tumbbad’s advance booking proves that only a few films are ahead of their time
Tumbbad is proving with its progress that some films are indeed ahead of their time. It won’t be surprising at all if Tumbbad surpasses the collections posted in the original run in the very first week of its re-release. Tumbbad could prove to be a decision challenger. In the past, some films that did not do well in their original run did extremely well in re-runs and that led to a change in their decisions and we will probably see this happen again; but this is happening in the modern era when the film is available to watch for free on digital. Even Veer Zaara is re-releasing on September 13 but the release is not that wide.
