US President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an order, aimed at “finishing” to the Department of Education, which is a decades -old target of US rights, which wants the individual state to free schools from the federal government.
Avoided by school children sitting at the desk installed in the eastern room of the White House, Trump smiled as an order after signing at a special ceremony.
Trump said the order “would start to terminate the Federal Education Department once and for all.”
“We are going to close it and stop it as soon as possible. It is not doing it well,” said Trump. “We are going to return education in states where it is.”
The Education Department, created in 1979, cannot be closed without the approval of the Congress – but Trump’s order will probably have the power to keep money and the power to starve.
The move honors one of Trump’s campaign promises and is one of the most rigorous steps in the government’s cruel overhaul with the help of Trump Tech Tycoon Elon Musk.
The order instructs Education Secretary Linda McMahon to “take all necessary steps to closure the Education Department and to facilitate the Education Authority to the Education Authority.”
Democrats and teachers have slammed the move.
The top Democrat in the Senate, Chak Shumar, has “grabbed the tyrannical power” and “one of the most destructive and destructive steps by Donald Trump anytime.”
Republican leaders, including Florida Governor Ron Desantis and Texas’s Greg Abbott, were in the audience for the signature ceremony.
Trump has taken necessary steps to save money and improve educational standards in the United States, claiming that they are lagging behind those in Europe and China.
But education has been a battleground in the culture wars of America for decades, and Republican wants to remove its control with the federal government for a long time.
– ‘Beautiful Day’ –
Trump’s appointment of McMahon – The former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment – was widely seen as a hint to lead the department that its days were counted.
The President said at the signature ceremony that “he is expected to be the last secretary of our education.”
McMahon, who had reduced the department employees after the swearing in earlier this month, told reporters at the White House that Trump “wanted to bring those dollars back to the states without Washington’s bureaucracy.”
Trump promised to get rid of the department on the campaign trail and develop its powers for American states, similarly with the rights of abortion.
But the White House had earlier stated that a misconduct education department was likely to live to deal with “important tasks”, including some grants for loans and low -income students.
Press Secretary Karolin Levit told reporters before signing, “The education department will be much smaller than today.”
The Heritage Foundation-A right-wing Think-Tank which has seen many of the “Project 2025” recommendations adopted by Trump-welcomed the step.
“This is a beautiful day to destroy the education department,” it said on X.
Traditionally, the US government has a limited role in education, in which only 13 percent of primary and secondary schools are being funded by the rest of the states and local communities, with funding from federal coffeers.
But federal funding is invaluable for low -income schools and students with special requirements. And the federal government is necessary in implementing the security of major civil rights for students.
Trump, his billionaire advisor Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) of Musk have already destroyed several other government agencies, effectively slashing programs and employees and crippled them.
A similar step to disintegrate the American agency for international development was stopped by a federal judge earlier this week, who said the possibility of push violated the US Constitution.
