Apple News will bring live updates to the lock screen of iPhone and iPad users as Americans begin voting to choose their next president.
Starting late Tuesday night (US time), users will be able to follow live activity from Apple News that tracks the election results, Apple Insider reports.
“The lock screen will feature a large, interactive widget that will launch for the latest election coverage, and the dynamic island will continuously show election counts for each candidate,” the report noted.
If you have a newer version of the iPhone, you can keep an eye on election counts in Dynamic Island while doing other things on your phone.
The widget will be available on iPhones, iPads and Apple watches during the counting of votes in the US presidential and congressional elections.
It will show the election count for Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris, as well as Senate and House election results.
iPhone users need to register to receive updates on the lock screen. Open Apple News and tap the “Follow the 2024 Election Live” banner.
According to the report, Live Activities will appear on the iPhone and iPad lock screen, but only devices with Dynamic Island will get the special user interface (UI).
Apple Watch can also show Live Activity data in widget view.
Apple originally introduced Live Activities to take advantage of Dynamic Island and present live, updated information to the user.
Meanwhile, more than 82 million voters had already cast their ballot in early voting in person or by mail. This is more than 51 percent of the 158 million votes cast in the 2020 election.
If Harris wins, she will become the first woman to win the presidency, and the first African American woman, the first Asian American and the first Indian American to reach the top of American politics. If Trump wins, he will become the second president in US history to lose re-election after a first term and then win on his third attempt. The first was Grover Cleveland.
The winner must secure at least 270 of the 538 Electoral College votes.
