Tovino Thomas, while promoting his upcoming film ‘ARM’, reacted strongly to the developments related to the Hema Committee report. Speaking exclusively to IndiaToday.in, he said, “I don’t have the full details of the Hema Committee report, but I would say that if someone has done something very wrong, he should be punished; no one will question him. Strict action should be taken now.”

Tovino also reacted to the Kolkata doctor rape murder case and told us, “I have a daughter, I have a sister, I have a wife, I have a mother. So, I live with a lot of women in my family. I am really worried about their safety and the safety of every other woman.”

Actress Krithi Shetty, who was also a part of the film, shared her opinion on the Hema Committee report and said, “I think it’s a very clear position. What’s wrong is wrong. It’s very unfortunate, but the more we talk about it, the more awareness will come, which is a good thing. It will bring about change.”

The Hema Committee was formed in 2017 in response to the alarming rise in sexual harassment cases in the Malayalam film industry. It was a direct result of the public outrage following the abduction and assault of a leading Malayalam actor in 2017. The committee, headed by Justice Hema, was tasked with investigating various aspects of sexual harassment and gender bias in the industry. It took several years to prepare the report, which details systemic issues plaguing the industry, including the lack of a safe working environment for women.

The report, finally submitted to the Kerala government, has been the subject of intense debate. Despite being submitted in 2019, its findings have not been made public, leading to frustration among stakeholders, especially those advocating for women’s rights in the industry.

Tovino and Krithi are currently promoting their film ‘ARM’, which is set to release on September 12 in multiple languages.
