David Lau, the Vice President of Software Engineering of Tesla Inc., has told the company people that they are stepping down, according to the people familiar with the matter.
One of the few officers has been in Tesla for about 13 years, and has been held from 2017 to promote the products of the automaker with Elon Musk. His team is responsible for software in Tesla’s vehicles -Infotainment and Information Safety along with Over -Di -Ayer Software updates -to oversee cloud services and manufacturing systems.
Tesla and Lau did not immediately respond to the remarks requests.
The departure comes in a challenging moment for Tesla, which is already struggling with consumer backlash, an aging product lineup, a dull market for electric vehicles and the automotive tariff of President Donald Trump. This week the company recorded a 13% decline in the first quarter sales, inspiring analysts to cut hopes.
In recent months, there have been protests in their work led by the Championing of Musk’s right -wing and Trump Administration in the US and Europe in the US and Europe, which is killing the federal workforce.
Tesla’s shares declined by 10% in New York by Friday afternoon as the broad market slipped. Since Trump’s electoral victory, the stock has fallen by nearly 44% on Thursday after reaching a record high on December 17.
The reason for Lau’s departure was not immediately clear.
LAU was one of the company leaders, who appeared on stage with Kasturi at an event staged in 2023 to demonstrate the bench behind Tesla’s Chief Executive Officer. In March of that year, after the Investor Day, it was criticized for months that Musk had spent handling and running the amount of shares of Twitter, now X, and Tesla, which he had sold to help in funding the acquisition.
When Tesla rolled out a redesigned model 3 sedan in 2023, Lau painted a video in addition to promoting design changes and touchscreen for backseat passengers.
