In short

  • The first trailer for ‘The Odyssey’ leaked online despite specialized dramatic screening
  • The film included Tom Holland, John Bernthal and Matt Demon from the film.
  • The trailer was later taken down from various handles

The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s much awaited Greek mythology film, ‘The Odyssey’ has been leaked online. Although the filmmakers acclaimed by critics wanted to release it only in theaters, as he had done with ‘Openhaimer’, fans with smartphones recorded it anyway.

The trailer aims to make a special debut in theaters, but the clips quickly appeared on Tiktok and YouTube. Universal Pictures actively removed most videos using a copyright strike, but fans got a glimpse of Tom Holland, John Bernthal and Matt Demon.

The trailer opens with a wide shot of the sea and a thick voiceover, saying that “darkness. Zeus’ law was broken. A kingdom without a king after my guru’s death. He knew that the war was incredible. Still, he won.”

The scene then shows Holland as Telemachus, the son of Odisius, who is on a mission to find his missing father. He talks with John Bortnight’s character, whose role is still unknown. Holland says, “I have to find out what happened to my father.” Bernthal replied, “Interest in rumors? Gossip. Who has a story about Odisius?” Then he asks the crowd, “You? Do you have a story?”

The video then shown the Greek troops while marching by Tarchlight, a shady Trojan horse submerged in water, and the Matt Demon’s Odisius was stuck for driftwood in the sea, all were occupying the epic scale and visual grandeur of the film.

Based on Homer’s classic ‘The Odissi’, the film follows the home for Ethaka after the film Trojan War. This reflects a long, dangerous journey filled with demons such as his famous Trojan Horse Trick and Cyclops.

Perfectly shot on IMAX cameras, ‘The Odyssey’ is Nolan’s biggest and most expensive film, so far a budget of USD 250 million (about Rs 2143 crore). Filming is happening in Greece, Morocco and Italy, the story is true for the Mediterranean Settings of the story.

‘The Odissi’ is set to release worldwide in theaters on July 17, 2026.
